The Twilight Series seems like it has begun a craze amongst young teen girls who are crazy of this series. However, Twilight isn't the first set of books, movies or TV shows that have turned young audiences to the world of vampires.
Of course,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one of the biggest cult TV series of all time is Buffy the Vampire Slayer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which ran on the WB from 1997-2003. It ran for 7 seasons where you could catch Buffy, slaying Vampires and all sorts of other mystical creatures. Vampires like Angel and Spike became favorites and like Twilight it had a mix of werewolves to, although Oz never competed for Buffy's heart.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was so popular that it soon led to Angel,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a spinoff that aired for 5 seasons. Unfortunately,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Angel had to leave the other show to headline his own show. As a way to pay for his past he was destined to live alone and decided to do to so in Los Angeles as a private PI where he took on corrupt law firms and mysterious creatures.
Moonlight aired in 2007 on CBS and starred Alex O'Loughlin (who you can now see on Hawaii 5-0). His story was similar to the story of Angel's as he too was a vampire who was trying to be good and help people. His story too had a bit of romance with a reporter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Beth Turner,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who he ended up having ties to, from an earlier time. Unfortunately, Moonlight wasn't a long lasting series. It lasted for only 1 season and only got 16 episodes despite the fact that it won the People's Choice Awards for Most Popular New Drama that year.
That leads into the newest of Vampire Shows on TV, which is appropriately named, "The Vampire Diaries," and it is currently in its 2nd season on the CW. This show has a very similar feel to Twilight and is part of what has held some viewers away from it. The show revolves around Elena, a girl who has just lost her parents in an accident. She lives in the town of Mystic Falls which has many historical ties and as its name suggests has some mystical roots going back as far as the Civil War. The Salvatore brothers also live in the town although they have been residents for much longer, having been there since the 1800's.
While none of these shows (and there are many more not mentioned) didn't exactly spark the fascination with the Vampire world, many are based off of popular book series, it shows that Twilight is not new in attracting young audiences to the world of Vampires and it will probably not be the last.
