As use of the MOB Guardian System spreads worldwide, it represents a major contribution to improving safety at sea
Personal MOB Device - The MOB Guardian System provides small radio devices that are worn by crewmembers. A fall overboard interrupts the short-range signal and sounds an alarm. A transmission is broadcast to shore side search and rescue operation centers in less than two minutes. Early warning and broadcast of the emergency to search and rescue coordination centers will greatly improve the chance of survival from a fall overboard.

The MOB Guardian System fills a unique position in the world of electronic rescue devices. This new system take the best of man overboard alarms, personal locater beacons and emergency position indicating beacons [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and places their benefits into one holistic package. Components combine to provide a complete system that tracks ship position using the Iridium satellite network, provides data links to shore rescue centers from vessels in distress [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and sounds an alarm if a crewman falls overboard.
Field Testing - The United Kingdom's Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has conducted sea trials of the safety system that is manufactured by McMurdo Signature Industries Limited on 100 UK fishing vessels. This group is charged with lifesaving duty on the seas around the United Kingdom using some 232 lifeboat stations manned around the clock. RNLI plans to equip some 3 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 commercial fishing vessels with the MOB Guardian System by 2009 and will install the equipment on its own fleet of rescue craft. RNLI Operations Manager Peter Bradley states, “This is a revolutionary new system that will help the RNLI save more lives at sea. It will help us take the ‘search’ out of search and rescue, enable us to reach casualties more quickly, and reduce the time at sea in sometimes horrific conditions for our volunteer crews. Minutes can make the difference between life and death in the waters around our coastline.”
SAR Coordination - Family members and company interests can track equipped vessels through a secure web based interface to a satellite gateway that provides point-to-point communication data links to users. Iridium's global coverage using 66 low earth orbiting satellites ensures reliable service search and rescue organizations. The system maintains continuous contact with the vessel and sounds an alarm if the vessel fails maintain communications with shore side facilites.
International Award Winner - Active Web Solutions, the developer of the maritime safety system was awarded the Safety at Sea International Award sponsored by Safety at Sea International magazine on the behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Managing Editor Paul Gunton says, “The judges were extremely impressed by the ‘MOB Guardian’ and felt that the software and communication systems played the major part in making it a significant product." The Safety at Sea International awards are meant to acknowledge pioneering developments in marine safety equipment and management.”
