You do not need your own website to make money with Google's Adsense. Hence, you do not need to purchase a domain and hosting for your own website.
There are a lot of blogging platform out there where you can create your own website. Normally they do not provide you with a top level domain. You have to get subdomain provided by the blogging service provider.
