Blizzard Entertainment's cinematic trailer for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is, as with all cinematics Blizzard has produced, extremely impressive. But what goes into producing a trailer of that caliber? At the World of Warcraft Cinematics panel at BlizzCon 2010, the artists behind the trailer delved into some of the processes the large cinematics [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] team at Blizzard went through to get it made. They followed this up with the world premier of the Worgen race introductory cinematic.
The first topic covered at the panel, however, was the creation of Deathwing, the gigantic metal-jawed dragon that is the focus of the cinematic and the Cataclysm expansion. The huge lizard went through ma [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ny iterations,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], before the team decided upon the version with a metal jaw, with Deathwing resembling dragons like Alextrasza early on. Then the team kept making every aspect of the dragon -- the wings, the jaw the limbs -- bigger and bigger until they reached the ludicrous size they are today.
Moving onto the cinematic as a whole, the arti Final Fantasy XIV power leveling sts discussed some of the biggest hurdles in it's creation. Many of the sequences in the cinematic had to be redone several times to get them up to "the Blizzard standard." The scene in which Thousand Needles becomes flooded was once upon a time seen from the top down, while at another stage the wall of water overcame the camera. Meanwhil Final Fantasy XIV gold e, The scene in which Deathwing flies past Darkshore at some point clocked in at a 40 gig filesize per frame. The artist estimated that the full scene would have taken about a year to download on a cable modem.
If you haven't seen the trailer yet, you need to.
They also premiered the Worgen character cutscene which fills the gap betw FinalFantasy XIV account een when Worgen players are infected and transform, and when they find themselves caged. Like the Forsaken's betrayal sequence and the death of the Lich King, the scene was made with in-game assets.
It opens with a Worgen (likely representing the player) perched above the city of Gilneas on a bell tower. It cuts to a man in a coat and top Final Fantasy XIV Gil hat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who you later discover is named Lord Godfrey. "Look what you've become", he says "you're nothing more than a wretched beast". It shows the human past of the Worgen's player character, his attack on innocents, his trapping, and his ultimate transportation to where the player begins after their transformation. The cinematic shown conta FFXIV power leveling ined a male Worgen, so it is unclear whether female players (or guys who like to gender-bend) will get a tweaked scene. We asked a representative from Blizzard and were told they weren't sure, but they didn't think so.
Viewers were shown that sequences that use in-game assets like these are motion-captured. Although they look like they ar FFXIV account e pulled straight from the game, a lot of details, ranging from subtle lighting and reflection effects to explosions and wobble-cam, are also added in to make the scenes look a little more compelling.
It also looks as though these sorts of story-gap-filling cinematics will become somewhat regular, which is great news for lore buffs.
